I know many brethren are left with a bad taste in their mouth after attending the re-run of the EVM preaching last Sunday, where he took about 20 minutes to bash and insult his siblings. He was sarcastic and mocking, unbecoming of a man in his position. I won’t bother going there. I’ve read enough from others. It just saddens me.
What is also sad are all the other Ministers who not only spend a lot of time on Facebook trolling sites, they are not even teaching scriptures anymore but just bashing away at Defenders and worse, they are encouraging other brethren to not only bash ka Erdy’s family but to use foul language as well. The Ministers are RE-POSTING remarks that are very Unchristian.
Here are some of the posts of “BRETHREN of the INC”. I’m REALLY sorry I have to actually show this:
Secondly, here is a post of “Brother” Dino Bunag, minister of LA locale and son of the late Brother Aniceto Bunag Sr.:
Here is a post from “Brother Joel San Pedro, minister and watchdog of the Sanggunian:
Here are my thoughts on these;
first of all, why do they permit brethren to use foul language? Two, why do they even re-post and encourage such Unchristian behaviour? Have they quit the Ministry and become gossip columnists?! How embarrassing! It is conduct unbecoming.
Three, I cannot answer for every post – I am sure that some “Defenders” have also posted insults or sarcasm but as the saying goes, 2 wrongs don’t make a right. So does that make it ok for ministers to bash and insult at will?
If they feel the Defenders are wrong why can’t they thoroughly use scriptures convincingly to defend their stance? Why are the number of “Defenders” growing? Because ministers like “Brothers” Joel and Dino have resorted to mockery instead of satisfying the questions and issues brethren may have.
So here are my thoughts on these – let me correct that – let me just use Scripture:
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
If I wanted to get down and dirty like they are doing, I could, but I refuse to lower myself to this level of hypocrisy. All I will say is this…
Brother Joel has the nerve to bash Ka Menorca that he objects to him being called a Minister, that “he entered the Ministry 17 years ago and took oath 11 years ago?” Is that too long for you sir? He was not ordained as quickly as you. Even though you also got in trouble didn’t you? Oh many of us remember… but I won’t say it. (Would you call that a speck or a plank?)
The only reason ka Erdy allowed you to continue was because of your pretty diploma to help the Church. You say no? Then were are those who were with you at that event? Unfortunately they don’t have the same credentials as you and they were kicked out. Is this baseless gossip? I will not debase myself by giving ugly details.
And for our Brother Dino Bunag? Oh my. In respect to your great father I will not even say anything about your “colourful” past. Be thankful for your last name which you and your brothers have used and abused. Yes, I was there in the 80’s. We all know.
I could go and spread all kinds of stories that will make people blush but that is not what I do. I would rather follow the Scriptures. Maybe we can all follow (including the “ministers”) – here, read for yourself, instead of pressuring the government for being unfair, boycotting the press for being bias, posting insults on Facebook for everything else – Apostle Peter wrote all these instructions in the same chapter 2:
Start with this:
“It was to this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example, so that you would follow in his steps.”
Here are the some EXAMPLES Jesus left that we should follow as Christians…
“For the sake of the Lord submit yourselves to every human authority: to the Emperor, who is the supreme authority, and to the governors, who have been appointed by him to punish the evildoers and to praise those who do good.”
IT DOES NOT SAY RALLY AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT EVERY TIME WE DON’T GET OUR WAY.
“For God wants you to silence the ignorant talk of foolish people by the good things you do.”
IT DOES NOT SAY “BY THE INSULTS THAT YOU POST ON FACEBOOK”
“Live as free people; do not, however, use your freedom to cover up any evil, but live as God’s slaves. Respect everyone, love other believers, honor God, and respect the Emperor.”
WHICH PART OF “RESPECT EVERYONE” DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?
“When he was insulted, he did not answer back with an insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but placed his hopes in God, the righteous Judge.”
IT DOES NOT SAY INSULT RIGHT BACK WITH A VENGEANCE SIRS.
I call out to all the brethren, especially Ministers, the actions that you are taking, ask yourself, and I hate to use a non-INC term, “What would Jesus do?” Would He do the things you are doing? Would He utter what you have uttered?
Lastly, Apostle Paul’s instruction. It is self explanatory:
“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any sin, you who are spiritual [that is, you who are responsive to the guidance of the Spirit] are to restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness [not with a sense of superiority or self-righteousness], keeping a watchful eye on yourself, so that you are not tempted as well.”
Isn’t that the work of Ministers? Gentleness and not a sense of superiority or self-righteousness? Please keep an eye on yourself. It truly saddens me when people I used to look up to have lost that sense of compassion and care. I think to myself, how easy it would be for ka EVM to stop all these insults and nonsense against his mother and siblings. But there no such Christian instruction.
When I go to church, I see around me, eyes that are suspicious, faces of anger and voices of self-righteousness. It is NOT Facebook that weakens my faith. It is NOT the comments. It is that feeling that God is not there with us; that HE is disappointed with the direction the Church has taken.
Someone commented somewhere, What do you mean restore the Church?
For me, I pray to God that He may restore the sacredness and beauty in the worship services; That He would restore the dignity of the ministry; that He would restore the love that has left the congregations. That is Christianity.
