It is hard to imagine that even though the members of the Iglesia ni Cristo are actively attending Worship Services that I would be idiotic enough to say that our souls are slowly dying. Even King David experienced great grief and anguish that he declared about his soul: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me?” There are moments that we are weak and our souls are down cast. So for us to recover, David also continued: “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.”
We put our hope in God and we continue to praise him. We do this by attending the Worship Services isn’t it? And it’s in the Worship Services we should get the food for our souls through the words we receive. The food that should nourish and strengthen us. However, let’s be clear about this; it’s not simply attending and listening. Jesus Christ made it clear. Please read carefully in the book of Matthew chapter 4:
“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Some of you may be mumbling that you know this already. But have you really taken notice of what Jesus said? He said EVERY WORD that comes from the mouth of God. So if we do not receive every word of God, how shall man live?
Let’s take an analogy – Imagine that you eat everyday (I know most of us do). But say you never eat any beans, vegetables, meat, and whole grains. You eat, but not these foods. The result is that you would be have Thiamine deficiency. This is what they call Beriberi. The end result is it damages the nerves and can lead to a loss of muscle strength and eventually, muscle paralysis, and even heart failure. But you eat everyday! But if it is lacking in what we need, it can lead to death.
So going back to that verse; On EVERY WORD from the mouth of God. There has to be constant feeding of God’s words.
What my concern is that even though a person may be in the Worship Services but the lessons are constantly about Submitting; Bearing Fruit; Offering; There is no doubt that those are in the Bible. But wow shall we get the full nourishment?!?!
Am I just blowing smoke? Remember the verses we received in Bible Study why the words of God are important? “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
We need the Scriptures for instruction that we may be complete! How can we be complete when we keep receiving the same words over and over. Submitting; Bearing Fruit; Offering… Submitting; Bearing Fruit; Offering… Submitting; Bearing Fruit; Offering…
Take the lesson this past midweek. I heard Psalms. duty to praise… so Offer. I heard Colossians. Every part does it’s work… so we all Offer. I heard Matthew – something about giving water to the disciples. Therefore… offer.
Didn’t we used to have lessons about how the earth is round and not flat? One hour to God is a thousand years to man? Wife respects the husband? Children honour the parents? Forgiving one another? Love our enemies? Are these not also Scriptures? Where are they?
We are not nourished when all we hear is, “Don’t listen to the lies”. Our souls are lacking nourishment. We cannot be complete if we don’t receive ALL SCRIPTURE. Jesus said EVERY WORD. We cannot live without it. We cannot reach perfection living on a few verses repeated over and over. How can we live like Jesus if we do not hear about how He lived?
I heard one answer. The lessons are all about submission because there are people trying to undermine the Administration’s leadership. And that brethren are refusing to obey even more.
What seems to be missed by the Leaders on why we are losing the brethren is not because of the “other side” attacking us. It is the lack of spiritual food that is weakening us. The food that will inspire and strengthen us. And I don’t mean just trying to make the brethren cry by reminding them how miserable our life is, how we are far from our children. We need all the food. You want to edify us? Give us ALL the words, not just the verses to remind us you are in command. In short, let go of Hebrews 13:17 for a while. We know it very well already. There are roughly 31,000 verses in the Bible. I’m sure there are many many more lessons we can learn aside from Submitting; Bearing Fruit; Offering…
